Introduction

Department of Pulmonary Medicine come into existence in 2008. This Department undertake UG and PG teaching programme, patient care 24 x 7 for patient of Akola and surrounding district. Department is fulfilled with Faculties (Professor, Asso. Prof, Asst. Prof, SRs & PG students (JRs). Department has a 50-bed Pulmonary Medicine ward. Out of it 25 beds for non-TB pulmonary diseases ward and 25 beds for Tuberculosis ward. Care is offered to patients suffering from various respiratory ailments such as Asthma, COPD, Pneumonia, ARDS, Pleural disorders , Tuberculosis, Occupational lung diseases and lung cancers.

Department of Pulmonary Medicine serves as Nodal DR TB centre in Western Vidarbha region since 2008. Department deal with complex MDR-TB and XDR-TB cases and all severe form of tuberculosis cases which are managed in accordance with PMDT guidelines which are referred from 5 districts and other areas of around Akola. Centre is equipped with all diagnostic and management facilities for all forms of tuberculosis.

Department is also catering interventional pulmonology services such as bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy.

Department conduct regular clinical research & trials to share knowledge, identify best practices and fill the knowledge gaps.

Department also runs specialty clinics (such as asthma clinics, COPD clinics, ILD clinics and smoking cessation clinics).

Department is actively involved in running NTEP programme to make TB free India in coherence with Government of India goal of TB elimination by 2025.

  1. To make department as best teaching department in providing academic knowledge.
  2. To establish state of art IRCU services for critical respiratory patients.
  3. To establish state of art Sleep lab (Polysomnography lab).
  4. To strengthen interventional pulmonology services such as EBUS, Cryo and navigation bronchoscopy.
  5. To establish state of art Pulmonary function test lab.
